The Power of Saying Less: Why Silence Can Be Your Superpower

In a world that is constantly clamoring for our attention, it can be difficult to find moments of peace and quiet. But sometimes, the best way to find clarity and understanding is to simply say less (it's been hard for me to learn this lesson, I'm Cuban). But I've learned that sometimes, when someone says "oh look Puff the Magic Dragon is in the sky," I respond with "make sure to say hello for me!"

The Benefits of Saying Less

There are many benefits to saying less. When we talk less, we have more time to listen. This can help us to better understand the people around us and to build stronger relationships. It can also help us to avoid saying things that we might later regret. Don't get it twisted, saying less does not mean being a wallflower. Not having an opinion is NOT brave, but sometimes you have to let shit go. What's that saying..."opinions are like assholes, everyone has one."

The Wisdom of Letting Things Be

There are times, the best thing we can do is to simply let things be. This doesn't mean that we should give up on our goals or dreams. But it does mean that we should be patient and allow things to unfold in their own time.  Out of time? Then walk away. Say less, Care less.

How to Say Less

If you're not sure how to say less, here are a few tips:

  • Be mindful of your words. Before you speak, take a moment to think about what you want to say and how it might be received.

  • Listen more than you talk. Give others a chance to share their thoughts and feelings.

  • Practice silence. Spend some time each day in silence. This can help you to become more aware of your thoughts and feelings.

The Power of Silence

Silence can be a powerful tool. It can help us to connect with ourselves and with the world around us. It can also help us to find peace and clarity in the midst of chaos. Oh and stonewalling or witholding love, is not "the power of silence," it's dysfuctional.

In Conclusion

Saying less can be a difficult but rewarding practice. By being mindful of our words and practicing silence, we can find greater peace and understanding in our lives.

Additional Thoughts

  • Saying less can also be a sign of respect.

  • It can be helpful to set boundaries around your communication.

  • You don't have to be silent all the time. But it's important to be mindful of how much you're talking.

Thank you for reading.

I would also like to add that saying less can be a particularly powerful tool for the over sharers of the world. It's important to remember that there is a time and a place for everything. Sometimes, the best way to make your point is to simply say less.
